Menopause is always associated with hormonal changes in women with age. Recent studies reveal, the loss of reproductive capacity due to aging that also occurs in men.
The condition usually occurs through SLOH symptoms or symptomatic late-onset hypogonadism. Occurs when the testes do not produce enough testosterone, a hormone that plays an important role in the growth and development of masculine.
Symptoms of male menopause as quoted from page Times of India is almost equal to women. Feel fatigue, mood swings, decreased desire for sex, hair loss, poor concentration and weight gain.
"This is a disorder that is very lazim.Kami estimates that 95 percent of cases are undiagnosed and therefore untreated. In fact, if ignored, can seriously interfere with the effect of quality of life," said Robert Brannigan, MD, a urologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
"Menopause in women, a decline in hormone production in a relatively quick. While men experience hormonal changes more slowly, with testosterone levels decreased by around one percent each year beginning in the late thirties," Brannigan said.
According to Brannigan, at the age of 70 years, the decline in male testosterone levels could reach 50 percent or more compared to the initial level. But note that old age is not the only deciding factor. Genetics can also cause menopose in men to come faster.
"We saw a man more prone to hypogonadism today than it was ten years ago. However, many men prefer to stay silent because of lack of awareness surrounding disorder," says Brannigan.
Doctors warn that hypogonadism is associated with chronic diseases like high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease. It is also closely associated with infertility. "The disease is not something to be ignored," says Brannigan.
